Symphony No. 1 in A-flat major, Op. 55 is the first symphony by English composer Edward Elgar, completed and premiered in 1908. The late-Romantic orchestral work is characterised by expansive, lyrical themes, rich orchestration and cyclic motivic links, and represents a central piece of Elgar's mature output that consolidated his move into large-scale symphonic writing.
