Symphony no. 2

Album by Jean Sibelius & Berliner Philharmoniker & Herbert von Karajan

Symphony No. 2 is the second symphony by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, composed in 1901–1902 and premiered in 1902. Orchestral in scope and rooted in late-Romantic tonality, the four-movement work uses recurring motifs, broad orchestration and long-range thematic development, representing a turn towards a more expansive, nationalistic idiom that informed Sibelius's subsequent symphonies.
