Also sprach Zarathustra
Album by Richard Strauss & Michel Schwalbé & Berliner Philharmoniker & Herbert von Karajan
Also sprach Zarathustra is an orchestral tone poem by German composer Richard Strauss, composed and premiered in 1896. The work employs a large orchestra with prominent brass fanfares, sweeping string textures and bold harmonic colour to convey philosophical ideas, and it represents a key moment in Strauss's career as he developed expansive, programmatic tone poems inspired by literary and philosophical sources.
