Symphony No. 4 in F minor is the fourth symphony by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, completed in 1877 and first performed in 1878. The work is a Romantic orchestral composition characterised by dramatic brass and string writing, expansive melodies, rich, colourful orchestration and recurring motive-driven material, and it marks a turning point in Tchaikovsky's symphonic writing as he moved towards greater structural cohesion and emotional range.
