Symphonie No. 5
Album by Gustav Mahler & Gewandhausorchester Leipzig & Václav Neumann
Symphony No. 5 is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1902. The purely orchestral work is cast in five contrasting movements that range from a funeral march through vigorous scherzo-like writing to a lyrical slow movement for strings and harp, and it represents Mahler's shift away from the vocal and choral forces of his earlier symphonies toward a concentrated orchestral mode in his compositional development.
