Messiah is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel, first performed in 1742. It is a Baroque English-language oratorio scored for soloists, chorus and orchestra, combining arias, recitatives and extensive choral writing, and it helped establish a model for the English oratorio during Handel's later career.
