Matthäus-Passion is a sacred oratorio (a Passion) by Johann Sebastian Bach, first performed in 1727. Scored for double choir, double orchestra and solo voices, it interweaves chorales, recitatives and arias in an expansive Baroque setting of the Passion narrative, reflecting Bach's mature liturgical style and influencing subsequent sacred music traditions.
