String Quartets Opus 18 Nos. 2 & 3

Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Quatuor Mosaïques

String Quartets Opus 18 Nos. 2 and 3 are two of the early string quartets by Ludwig van Beethoven, published in 1801. They are rooted in the classical quartet tradition but show Beethoven shift from Haydn-influenced forms towards bolder harmony and motivic development, featuring varied textures, sudden dynamic contrasts, expanded movement structures and rhythmic drive that point towards his later quartets.
