Membra Jesu Nostri

Album by Dieterich Buxtehude & Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Ton Koopman

Membra Jesu Nostri is a cycle of seven sacred cantatas by Dieterich Buxtehude, first published in 1680. The work exemplifies North German Baroque sacred music, employing expressive solo and choral writing with continuo and small instrumental forces, contrapuntal textures and chorale-derived motifs, and it occupies an important place in Buxtehude's output as a precursor to later Protestant cantata practice.
