String Quintets K. 515 & 516

Album by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart & Antoine Tamestit & Quatuor Ébène

String Quintets K. 515 and K. 516 are two chamber-music compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, completed in 1787. Scored for two violins, viola and two cellos, they exemplify Mozart's late Classical style with expansive lyrical slow movements, intricate contrapuntal writing and a rich harmonic palette, and they occupy an important place in his late chamber output, reflecting his renewed interest in polyphonic forms during the late 1780s.
