La bohème is an opera in four acts by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, premiered in 1896. Musically it exemplifies late-Romantic Italian opera and the verismo aesthetic, with flowing lyrical melodies, expressive orchestration and intimate ensembles portraying everyday lives, and it helped consolidate Puccini's reputation as a leading operatic composer of his era.
