Stabat Mater
Album by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi & Antonio Vivaldi & Claudio Scimone & Michel Corboz
Stabat Mater is a sacred choral composition by Italian composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, composed in 1736. Scored for soprano and alto soloists with string ensemble and basso continuo, it exemplifies late Baroque moving towards early Classical sensibilities through its lyrical melodies, expressive harmonies and concise devotional writing, and it was composed near the end of Pergolesi's brief career where it has had notable influence on 18th-century sacred music.
