Symphony no. 9
Album by Gustav Mahler & Jesús López Cobos & Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
Symphony No. 9 is the ninth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1909. The work is a late-Romantic orchestral composition that juxtaposes expansive lyrical passages with austere, fragmented textures and abrupt harmonic shifts, employing rich orchestration and wide dynamic contrasts, and as Mahler's final completed symphony it occupies a pivotal position in his output and in the transition from late Romanticism toward early 20th-century modernism.
