Das Lied von der Erde is a symphonic song cycle by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1909. Scored for two vocal soloists and large orchestra, it combines the formal scope of the symphony with elements of the German lied, employing expansive orchestration, chromatic harmonic language and themes of transience that reflect Mahler's late-period concerns and his transitional position between the Ninth and the unfinished Tenth Symphony.
