Symphony no. 1 in C minor, op. 68

Album by Johannes Brahms & Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest & Eduard van Beinum

Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 is the first symphony by German composer Johannes Brahms, completed and premiered in 1876. Musically it marries classical symphonic architecture and contrapuntal rigour with Romantic harmonic language and expansive orchestration, and as Brahms's first large-scale symphony it represents his engagement with the symphonic tradition established by Beethoven.
