Aleko is an opera in one act by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov, premiered in 1893. Musically it is rooted in the late-Romantic tradition, featuring lush orchestration, dramatic vocal writing and folk-influenced melodies, and it occupies an early place in Rachmaninov's career as a demonstration of his developing harmonic language and orchestral technique.
