Symphonies 3 & 4
Album by Robert Schumann & The Cleveland Orchestra & Christoph von Dohnányi
Symphonies Nos. 3 and 4 are orchestral works by Robert Schumann, composed in 1850 and 1841 respectively, with the Fourth later revised in 1851. They exemplify Schumann's Romantic orchestral writing, combining lyrical melodies, vivid orchestral colour and inventive formal structure, and occupy a central place in his mature symphonic output, with the Third drawing on Rhineland-inspired gestures and the Fourth presenting a reworked, more cohesive symphonic design.
