Symphonies nos. 85 & 86
Album by Joseph Haydn & Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra & Hugh Wolff
Symphonies nos. 85 and 86 are orchestral works by Austrian composer Joseph Haydn, composed in 1785–1786 as part of the set commonly known as the Paris symphonies. They occupy a place in Haydn's mature output and showcase the classical balance of form, lively rhythmic invention, colourful wind writing and dynamic contrasts that reflected Parisian tastes and helped broaden the expressive range of the late eighteenth-century symphony.
