Octet, D. 803 / Octet, D. 72
Album by Franz Schubert & Schubert Ensemble, Budapest
The Octet in F major, D.803, and the earlier Octet fragment D.72 are chamber works by Franz Schubert, composed in 1824 and around 1813 respectively. The larger D.803 Octet expands classical wind-and-string ensemble practice with extended forms, contrapuntal textures and songlike melodies indicative of Schubert's mature chamber style, while the earlier D.72 displays youthful experimentation with texture and form that points toward his later development.
