Pictures at an Exhibition is a suite for solo piano by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, composed in 1874. The work is a sequence of character pieces inspired by an art exhibition, characterised by vivid pictorial gestures, contrasting moods, modal harmonies and rhythmic vitality, and it occupies a central place in Mussorgsky's output and the late-Romantic Russian repertoire, having frequently been arranged for orchestra which broadened its audience.
