Symphonies nos. 38 "Prague" & no. 39

Album by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart & English Baroque Soloists & Sir John Eliot Gardiner

Symphonies Nos. 38 ('Prague') and 39 are orchestral works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, composed in 1786 and 1788 respectively. Both exemplify Mozart's late Classical orchestral style, with No. 38 associated with a broad, expansive opening and lively contrasts and No. 39 showing a move toward denser harmonic textures; together they represent a phase in his symphonic development as he explored greater formal complexity and orchestral colour.
