Carmina Burana

Album by Carl Orff & Robert Shaw & Atlanta Symphony Orchestra & Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus

Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata by German composer Carl Orff, composed in 1935–1936 and first performed in 1937. Musically it is characterised by large choral and orchestral forces, propulsive repetitive rhythms, modal melodies and stark dynamic contrasts that draw on medieval Latin and German poetry and mark Orff's move towards a percussive, rhythm-focused theatrical style.
