Der Troubadour is the German-language title of the opera Il trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi, which premiered in 1853. The work is a grand Romantic Italian opera characterised by dramatic, melody-driven arias, vigorous choruses and intense orchestral colour, and it marks a key example of Verdi's middle-period emphasis on large-scale dramatic structure.
