Symphonies nos. 7 & 8
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Государственный cимфонический оркестр Министерства культуры СССР & Gennadi Nikolayevich Rozhdestvensky
Symphonies Nos. 7 and 8 are orchestral works by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1941 and 1943 respectively. The Seventh is a large-scale wartime symphony often associated with the siege of Leningrad and expansive, march-like writing, while the Eighth is darker and more introspective, both occupying central positions in Shostakovich's mid-career output and reflecting his engagement with Soviet-era musical language.

First released: 1999
