Symphony no. 4
Album by Gustav Mahler & Chicago Symphony Orchestra & Sir Georg Solti
Symphony No. 4 is the fourth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1901. Musically it occupies a lighter, more transparent register within his symphonic writing, combining late-Romantic orchestration, folk-influenced motifs and a short vocal finale that contrasts intimate chamber-like passages with fuller orchestral textures, and it represents a move towards shorter, more concentrated forms in Mahler's middle period.
