Symphony in D minor / Symphonic Variations
Album by César Franck & Wiener Philharmoniker & Paul Crossley & Carlo Maria Giulini
Symphony in D minor / Symphonic Variations are compositions by Belgian-born French composer César Franck, composed in 1888 and 1885 respectively. The symphony is a late-Romantic orchestral work that employs cyclic thematic techniques, rich harmonic language and expansive orchestration, while the Symphonic Variations blends virtuosic piano writing with symphonic development and together they represent Franck's mature contribution to the French Romantic tradition.
