Symphonies 3 & 4
Album by Robert Schumann & Chamber Orchestra of Europe & Nikolaus Harnoncourt
Symphonies Nos. 3 and 4 are orchestral works by German composer Robert Schumann, written in 1850 and 1841 with the Fourth Symphony revised in 1851. They are Romantic symphonies characterised by lyrical themes, varied orchestral colour and sudden tempo changes, and they show that Schumann shifted from piano-centred composition to larger-scale orchestral writing in his middle career.
