Symphonies nos. 4 and 5
Album by Jean Sibelius & Sinfóníuhljómsveit Íslands & Petri Sakari
Symphonies Nos. 4 and 5 are orchestral works by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, composed in 1911 and 1915 respectively. They illustrate a shift in Sibelius's symphonic language, with the Fourth characterised by a more austere, concentrated modernism and leaner orchestration and the Fifth adopting broader, more expansive gestures and sweeping orchestral textures that signal his move away from late-Romantic norms toward a distinct, economy-driven symphonic voice.
