Symphony No. 2 'Resurrection' is the second symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1894 and first performed in 1895. The work combines late-Romantic orchestral writing with choral and solo vocal forces, featuring expansive dynamics, dense chromaticism and programme-driven contrasts between sombre, introspective passages and transcendent culminations, and it occupies a key position in Mahler's output as an expansion of symphonic form and an exploration of existential and spiritual themes.
