Symphony no. 13

Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Mariss Jansons & Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks & Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks & Sergey Aleksashkin

Symphony No. 13 is the thirteenth symphony by Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, premiered in 1962. Scored for bass soloist, men's chorus and orchestra, it sets a cycle of poems and is characterised by stark, declamatory vocal writing, sombre orchestral textures and a direct engagement with contemporary social themes, forming part of Shostakovich's later symphonic output.
