Symphony No. 9 in D minor is the ninth symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven, completed and first performed in 1824. The work is scored for a large orchestra with vocal soloists and a chorus in the final movement; it is a late work that follows his earlier symphonies and uses expanded forms, dense textures, dramatic contrasts and complex counterpoint, and it influenced later symphonic writing.
