Symphony No. 1 "The Gothic" is a symphonic composition by English composer Havergal Brian, completed in 1927. Scored for an extraordinarily large orchestra with multiple choirs and organ, the work employs a late-Romantic/post-Romantic harmonic idiom, vast dynamic contrasts and expansive structures; it is the composer's first symphony and stands among the largest-scale symphonic works of the 20th century in terms of forces and duration.
