Sonatas for Cello and Piano

Album by Johannes Brahms & János Starker & György Sebök

Sonatas for Cello and Piano is a set of two chamber works by German composer Johannes Brahms, first published in 1865 and 1886. Rooted in the Romantic tradition, the works combine lyrical, song-like themes with dense harmonic texture and contrapuntal writing, emphasising conversational interplay between cello and piano and reflecting Brahms's development from his earlier chamber manner to a more mature, expansive style.
