The Fairy-Queen is a 1692 semi-opera by English Baroque composer Henry Purcell, written as incidental music for a stage adaptation of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. It combines Baroque vocal solos, choruses and instrumental dances with continuo and orchestral colour typical of the Restoration theatre, and occupies a central place in Purcell's output and in the English semi-opera tradition.
