Symphony no. 9
Album by Gustav Mahler & Vladimir Ashkenazy & Česká filharmonie
Symphony No. 9 is the ninth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1909 and premiered in 1912. The work is late-Romantic in style, characterised by expansive orchestration, shifting tonality and stark contrasts between introspective slow passages and more agitated material, and as Mahler's final completed symphony it encapsulates his late-period preoccupations and influenced the development of twentieth-century symphonic writing.
