Symphonie Nr. 1
Album by Johannes Brahms & Wiener Philharmoniker & Carlo Maria Giulini
Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by Johannes Brahms, completed and first performed in 1876. The work is a large-scale Romantic symphony that blends Classical forms with a richly chromatic Romantic harmonic language, characterised by dense orchestration, expansive thematic development and an extended, climactic finale, and it marked the culmination of Brahms's long struggle to write a symphony, establishing his position as a symphonist in the late 19th century.
