Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest & Bernard Haitink
Symphony No. 11 in G minor, Op. 103 (The Year 1905) is the eleventh symphony by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich, composed in 1957. The work is a large-scale, programmatic orchestral symphony that employs march-like rhythms, expansive brass and woodwind writing and stark orchestral colours to evoke events associated with 1905, and it marks a turn in Shostakovich's middle-period output toward publicly oriented, politically engaged composition.
First released: 5th July 1993
