The First Big Bands 1934 to 1938

Album by Benny Goodman

The First Big Bands 1934 to 1938 is a compilation album by American clarinetist and bandleader Benny Goodman, collecting recordings from 1934 to 1938. The music is rooted in big band swing with clarinet-led melodies, arranged horn sections, tight ensembles and propulsive rhythm, and the collection documents Goodman’s move from small-group jazz to leading a commercially successful big band that helped popularise swing in the mid 1930s.
