Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp minor and the song cycle Songs from "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" are orchestral and vocal works by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, composed in 1901–1902 and across 1887–1901 respectively. Both exemplify Mahler's late-Romantic idiom, combining expansive orchestration, stark brass fanfares and intimate folk-derived vocal material, and they mark a pivotal phase in his career as he integrated songful melodic ideas into increasingly large-scale symphonic structures and explored new orchestral colour and emotional contrast.
