Symphony no. 3 "Ilya Muromets"

Album by Reinhold Moritzevich Glière & BBC Philharmonic & Sir Edward Downes

Symphony No. 3 'Ilya Muromets' is the third symphony by Russian composer Reinhold Glière, completed in 1911. The work is a large-scale, programme-driven symphony in the late-Romantic Russian tradition, characterised by expansive orchestration, vivid thematic material drawn from Slavic epic legend and a structural emphasis on narrative episodes that represents a substantial early 20th-century contribution to Russian symphonic repertoire.
