Symphony no. 5
Album by Gustav Mahler & Gürzenich‐Orchester Köln & François‐Xavier Roth
Symphony No. 5 is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1902 and premiered in 1904. The five-movement orchestral work - Mahler's first without vocal forces - traverses sombre funeral-march material, lyrical slow passages and brass-driven finales, employing expanded orchestration and formal contrasts that situate it between his earlier programme-inflected works and his later large-scale symphonies.
