Venus & Adonis
Album by John Blow & London Baroque & Charles Medlam
Venus and Adonis is an opera by the English composer John Blow, first performed in 1683. The work combines elements of the courtly masque with solo airs, choruses and instrumental dances over continuo-led accompaniment, and it is an early example of English Baroque opera that helped prefigure later developments in the genre.
