Symphony No. 1 is a symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1888. The work blends late-Romantic orchestral writing with folk-influenced melodies, expansive structures and dramatic shifts in mood, and it marks an early example of Mahler's move towards the large-scale symphonic canvases that would define his mature output.
