String Sextets nos. 1 and 2
Album by Johannes Brahms & Stuttgart Soloists
The String Sextets Nos. 1 and 2 are a pair of chamber works by Johannes Brahms, composed in 1860 and 1864 respectively. Written in the Romantic chamber-music tradition, they employ rich string textures, expansive melodies and contrapuntal complexity across two violins, two violas and two cellos, and represent a key development in Brahms's early-to-middle career chamber repertoire.

First released: June 1991
