Symphony no. 3 in D minor
Album by Gustav Mahler & Chicago Symphony Orchestra & James Levine & Chicago Symphony Chorus & Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus & Marilyn Horne
Symphony No. 3 in D minor is the third symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, composed between 1893 and 1896. The work is a large-scale late-Romantic symphony scored for an expanded orchestra with vocal forces, characterised by wide-ranging contrasts, extended duration and episodic form, and it represents a pivotal point in Mahler's output as he moved towards increasingly monumental, programme-influenced symphonic writing.
