Symphonie Nr. 5 is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1902. A large-scale purely orchestral work in five movements, it juxtaposes a solemn funeral march with turbulent and lyrical passages and a climactic, brass-driven finale, marking Mahler's move away from vocal symphonic writing and exemplifying his expansion of orchestral colour and form at the turn of the 20th century.
