Acis and Galatea

Album by George Frideric Handel & Les Arts Florissants & William Christie

Acis and Galatea is a pastoral masque by Georg Friedrich Händel, first composed in 1718. The work combines Italianate solo arias, English choral writing and pastoral orchestration with lyrical recitative, and it occupies a place in Händel's early English vocal theatre output as an example of his adaptation of continental operatic forms to English tastes.
