Symphony No. 4 is the fourth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1900. Scored for a late-Romantic orchestra with a contrasting, lighter finale that introduces a soprano solo, the work juxtaposes rich orchestral colours, folk-like melodies and moments of chamber-like transparency, and it represents a stage in Mahler's output where he balanced expansive symphonic thinking with more concise, song-influenced forms.
