String Quartets: Op. 17, nos. 3, 5 and 6
Album by Joseph Haydn & Kodály Quartet
String Quartets, Op. 17, nos. 3, 5 and 6 are three quartets from the Op. 17 set by Austrian composer Joseph Haydn, composed circa 1757–1761. They exemplify early Classical string quartet writing with transparent textures, balanced phrase structure and conversational interplay among the two violins, viola and cello, and show Haydn's early experiments in motivic development and formal cohesion that helped shape the genre during his formative period.
