String Quartets, op. 74 / Folk Music from Scotland

Album by Joseph Haydn & Maxwell String Quartet

String Quartets, Op. 74 is a set of six string quartets by Austrian composer Joseph Haydn, composed in 1793. These late Classical chamber works exemplify Haydn's mature quartet writing, combining formal sophistication, concentrated motivic development and folk-tinged melodies drawn from popular sources, and they occupy a central place in his late quartet output that contributed to the development of the string quartet repertoire.
